German Shepherd is a relatively new breed of dog, its origin is dated to 1899. It is developed for herding sheep’s, but because high intelligence, obedience and strength, today this dog is used across the world by police and the army, and even acting. Police and military are using this dog in the rescue operation and in control (because they can be trained to detect drugs and explosive).
They are large dogs, so the size of a male is 60–65 cm and weight of 30-40kg, females are smaller and their size is, 55–60 cm and weight of 22-32kg. Foreheair is domed, black nose and strong jaws. Eyes are medium sized, brown and provide them very good sense of sight. Their ears are probably the most known part of them. They are large and stand erect, open at the front, but they are pulled back while running.
German shepherd is the third most intelligent dog in the world (under Border Collies and Poodles). They are able to learn simple tasks after only five repetitions and they will obey the first command given to them at 97%. High intelligence combined with high strength made them the second most popular dog in the US and fourth in the UK. There are some records that Hitler trained this dog to read!
They are very curious and protective, this is the main reason why they are used in rescue missions. Although, they are safe to keep, there are many records about biting, so they were classified as the third breed of dogs who are responsible for biting. When we see that the bite force of 1,060 newton’s (humans have 380 newton’s), we can tell that this is a serious dog. But in all cases, they were responsible for biting, they were challenged.
