Common diseases affecting dogs
Dogs if not well taken care of are vulnerable to various diseases. One of the most common diseases affecting American dogs is Allergic Dermatitis. This is a skin condition in dogs that is characterized by frequent scratching or licking by the dog.
Another disease affecting many dogs is Arthritis and joint pain. Dogs suffering from this malady have swollen and painful joints and have difficulty walking. When dogs grow old, they suffer from senility just like human beings. They behave abnormally and have reduced awareness of what is happening around them. Such dogs can easily get lost.
Dogs can also in some cases develop cancer. There are many types of cancers affecting dogs ranging from skin cancer to colon cancer. Fortunately, these cancers can be treated if detected early. Dental diseases are also common among dogs. They mainly manifest themselves in the form of foul breath emanating from the dogs mouth.
Sometimes dogs also suffer from developmental disorders. These conditions affect puppies and include symptoms such as poor health, stunted growth and lack of appetite. It is interesting and disheartening to learn that dogs also suffer from Diabetes just like human beings. Dogs suffering from this ailment exhibit signs such as frequent urination, rapid weight loss and abdominal pains.
Gastrointestinal disorders are also prevalent especially among dogs that eat non certified food. Heart , kidney and liver diseases are also common among American dogs. The good news however is that most of these diseases are preventable and treatable if and when they are detected early.
