Is your dog happy?
If you want to be a good pet owner, you must know your dog well. In order to achieve this, you must pay attention to his body language. Luckily, there is some advice that will help you.
Alert. When your dog is alert he looks focused and intense. His ears are up and he stands upright. His mouth is closed and he may bark or growl. Also, he will look at whatever he detected.
Happy. When your dog is happy, his body language is relaxed. His ears and tail are in a natural position and he may wag his tail in a circular motion. His mouth is closed or slightly open.
Aroused. Depending on is your dog scared, angry or uncertain, his body language is different. His ears may be held forward or flattened on the side. He can look at the object and act like something is there. Although, we cannot see anything, dogs can be aroused by the sound.
Excited. When your dog is excited, he may look the same as when on alert but he might appear playful. His tail is held up and his ears are up. He may or may not wag his tail. The best way to determine is your dog happy is if he barks and keeps his mouth open.
Playful. You will know that your dog is playful if his movements are bouncy and jerky. He may bounce around in leaps and twists. He also may come to you, paw at you and then run away. Like he is calling you to play. Some dogs also have a ‘’play face’’. You will notice this if your dog keeps his mouth slightly open like he is smiling.
